I think you should add an outline with a price tag for a new plot, then add some kind of outline/ghost or hitbox-like view of a tower before you place it, so you know where you can and where you can’t place it. Found a bug: tower you are holding on to is already shooting at the enemies before placing it. Overall, I think it has potential.
Just want to agree the controls are not very clear. I was able to accidently build plots, but had to full screen the game to see additional controls. So changing the itch page resolution would probably help. I still dont know how to place towers.
You will definitely need to add some changing cursor (pointer), which would communicate what the current 'mode' of it is, and whether it is above a valid clickable location or not; consider making a 'ghost outline' of the different tiles and when the cursor is over a valid buildable area, display such outline (perhaps with a text over it saying "Click to add monster trail" and "Click to add Defender area" or some such); similarly, if I click "Water tower" or "Main tower", then I should be able to see what area it will protect/attack if placed where the mouse is.
Thanks for the feedback, i will try to work on this game and changing it/ fixing it as best as i can. This comment does help to see the flaws in my game. Is there anything else i need to change/fix?
It's kinda hard to tell at the moment, because the issues I've pointed out make it difficult to play your game; consequently, a player then spends most of their effort "fighting with the controls", and not enough focusing on the actual gameplay.
Perhaps once you have an update, it will be possible to inspect the gameplay.
Some type of visual walkthrough would help a lot, like a little tutorial with arrows pointing to where you need to click or a little video at the start. Even though I read the instructions, it took me a minute to figure out the building plots part. It was specifically that I was clicking on the edges of the path and not the empty space around it.

You'll be the first to know if i update it. Possibly
instructions unclear
I was trying to make the instructions as clear as i could. What could i change about them?

I'll work on it as soon as possible
Unfortunately I was only able to build some cells, but not any towers. Good job regardless 👍
